Often Overlooked
Too many times, Moms (and women) are overlooked.
It is frustrating and DEMORALIZING.
I don't have the answers.  I just know I am not alone.

Life as I know it

A few weeks ago, I heard an NPR story that included a brief explanation of the "Status Quo" syndrome.  The story was about mortgage lenders during the economic downturn.  There was a study showing that when the government asked for data about "at risk" mortgages, foreclosures went up.  The theory is that it is easy to accept the Status Quo as long as you don't have to focus on the issue -- basically this is your ability to bury your head in the sand.  But, when pushed for data, companies (or individuals) can no longer ignore the issues.

I bring this up because I think we all do this in life.  It is easier to pretend that issues don't exist or are not important rather than deal with them head-on.  I know that I a guilty of this.

When we started this blog site, we wanted it to be the conversation that we envisioned our Great Grandmothers having during a sewing circle.  In order to have the true, candid conversation, we need to let go of the "Status Quo" syndrome.  We need to discuss real issues and talk about (or ask for) real solutions.

To be honest, there is a lot that I don't want to discuss.  Because, if I tell you about it, I cannot pretend that the issues don't exist.  I think I could easily be overwhelmed.  There is a fine line between what does and what does not matter.  Because (right now), more matters than I am willing to admit.

I hope you join me on this journey.  I look forward to your helpful insights.  I also look forward to hearing comments and stories that show I am not alone.

Working in a mans world, I have felt this way a lot. So have many other women I work with!

With my last career, the pressure of housewife, career woman, and masters classes was too much. It was really difficult to make a decision to switch careers. I struggled with feeling like a quitter. So many of my coworkers were doing it and managing (or at least it appears that way, maybe I'm wrong). It took me two years to finally decide to put my pride aside and make the switch. Status is a worldly accomplishment, and at the end of my life my status isn't what will matter, or what I want people to remember about me. Instead, I hope I touch lives with wherever God takes me on this journey called life.
