Apples apples everywhere and not a cider doughnut to spare….
This weekend we went on our annual apple picking event. We live in New England, so no matter where we went it was sure to be a beautifully scenic drive. We took the long way, and it paid off. It’s been pretty dry here lately, so the colors of the fall aren’t the wonderful splendor they usually are, but we can still say that we found a lot of the trees beautiful!!! Some people say that the colors of the trees are more vibrant when it’s a bit cloudy out, I say completely opposite. I love the sunlight bouncing off of the red, orange and yellow. We lucked out with the sun and the colors yesterday. Usually we go to the Topsfield fair in Massachusetts, but this weekend we chose the Dame farm in Rhode Island. A-Maize-ing Corn Maze They have pick your own apples, pumpkins, other fruits, and a corn maze. Now first I was all gangbusters about doing the maze. THEN.. I took one look at it and I started to get claustrophobic. …it was THICK with corn. Please don’t go by me with mazes, I am one silly person when it comes to claustrophobia. We walked by and we could hear the muffled sounds of the people in the maze walking through. No one sounded in panic, no child was crying, just my fear of closed in places kept me from entering. I thought, OMG, I’m going to be in that maze and just freak OUT. I guess worst case I could have eaten my way out if I needed to …did you know that I love corn? Have you guessed that we didn’t do the maze? Their maze is HUGE!!! It has 4 stops and each stop takes about an hour to get through. If you make it through all four stops, then you get a prize. We didn’t try, so I can’t tell you what your prize would be. If anyone has made it through, please email me and let me know what I’ve missed out on…..I’m hoping it’s something like a years supply of used toe nails or something….so I don’t feel like I’ve missed out on something big. My luck it would be a doughnut, or a pumpkin or something I would have really liked. Like THEY GIVE YOU CORN!!!!COOOOORRRRNNN!!!! They also have horse wagon rides, and CORN! And pick your own pumpkins!!! Can you tell I love these fall events? But be warned you must go early to catch the elusive cider doughnuts. We got there in the afternoon and there were no remnants to be found. We had to find the closest “HONEY DEW” store to satisfy that apple picking cider doughnut void that we have right about this time of the year. HAPPY FALL!!! And HAPPY PICKING!!!!
